Communique Issued at a one-day Seminar Organised by Action For Community Development on Wednesday the 8th of April,2015 at ACD Hall 32 Mission Road Benin City. Seminar Theme:The Role of Religion in the Prevention of Post Election Violence. The meeting which commenced at about 11:30am had Christian and Muslim leaders and members of civil society and some political leaders present. After deliberations, the following decisions was agreed on as contained in the communique. That Christian and Muslim Leaders nationwide, should pray for peace during and after elections. That they should preach the message of peace, during and after elections to their followers. That Christians and Muslims should create spaces to dialogue and collaborate to promote peace and mutual co-existence in their communities. That churches and mosques should develop pro-poor programmes that would help to empower their poor members and promote peace in the land. That both religions stand for peace and thus, their adherents should work to promote peace. It was also agreed that the message for promoting peace after elections should be communicated to as many Christian and Muslim leaders as possible. Traditional rulers and political leaders were enjoined to give their blessings to all political aspirants and maintain neutrality. It was also unanimously agreed that the national orientation Agency should be made independent of government, in order to effectively educate and re orientate the citizens, in order to break the walls of ethnicity and build a nation bound in freedom peace and unity.
